Chris Slagle-Clowers, Senior Engineer at H2E, is a former Nuclear Electricians Mate from the Navy who has brought his passion for solving problems through creation to our team. Notwithstanding counsel from his electrical engineer father, Chris decided to follow the engineering path; although he first spent a decade in the Navy serving 8 of those years on two different submarines, the USS Louisiana and the USS Jimmy Carter. While serving he learned how to find solutions under intense pressure and experienced what it’s like to be on the working end of electrical drawings, all the while thoroughly enjoying tearing equipment apart for maintenance and the occasional swim call. Chris expressed how serving taught him the seriousness of the PE Seal, “Lives are always on the line in engineering, so the stamp means a lot.” an attitude he’s kept throughout his career.
Inspired in his youth by working on mechanical projects with his father as well as his personal love of machining, Chris decided to pursue a mechanical engineering degree after the Navy. However, it wasn’t the right fit, he still had love for electrical work from his time on the submarines. After having a daughter with his wife, three colleges across the country and the navigation of being a college student during covid, Chris obtained his bachelor’s in science of electrical engineering from Eastern Washington University. He started work in June of 2020, his son being born shortly after, and H2E being the only job he applied for. Now he looks at engineering from a different perspective, “In the armed forces it was fully hands on, maintaining and fixing things while using other people’s engineering designs, now in the private sector I am the one coming up with the designs.” With empathy for the man in the field Chris implements first-person functionality into his projects.
Known around the office for his unending collection of converse shoes, love of kilts and incorrigible commitment to facial hair growth, Chris brings a unique disposition to the office daily. H2E itself is galvanized by talented, passionate people who communicate excellence, which is why Chris Slagle-Clowers is our December Employee Highlight!
We are very lucky and honored to have Chris as part of our team!
